Call to Action for HB2648

HB2648, House Bill 2648, filed by Representative Jamie Gragg, seeks to make all Missouri Library Board Members ELECTED positions. Currently, all county library board members are recommended by either the Executive Director of the library or the current board members. The new members are “approved” by the county commissioners. To our knowledge, two counties have brave county commissioners that actually interview and choose the next library board member. The taxpayers have no knowledge or voice in this selection process. HB2648 will change that!

Click here to view the text of the bill. It covers county and city libraries throughout Missouri. It is a comprehensive overhaul of the library board members selection process! Many library boards have been captured by people with an agenda to allow pornographic and LGBTQ books available to minors. The material minors can digitally check out includes Rated R movies! Even if they are 12!

This is our moment to reclaim our taxpayer funded libraries! Voters in local communities will elect who serves on their library boards in the April elections! Emails are needed now! Please email Chairwoman Kelly at Hannah.Kelly@house.mo.gov and respectfully ask for HB2648 to be added to the committee calendar. HB2648 has been referred to Children and Families Committee which Rep. Kelly chairs. I am confident she wants to hear from Missourians and will move this bill forward if we use our voices! Local involvement equals national impact!
